Lots of articles from the January Dumbo Paneling Ahead

DUMBO Parks to be Included in Movie!
We’re Finally Recognized by Hollywood
By “Little” Jackie Larva

Word has reached Paneling offices that a movie is scheduled to be shot here in DUMBO!
That’s right, the as yet untitled film about a “Dog Frisbee competition” will begin shooting sometime this spring. One unnamed location expert had this to say, “The producers and director thought the soil in the central area of the Brooklyn Bridge Park had a good ‘spring’ to it, as they say in Dog Frisbee. This means that a well-trained Border Collie can get an extra inch or two when competing for the flying disk. They want to limit the digital effects in this budget picture as well as keep it authentic. Plus, the park next door has that long walkway, which will be used when the main (human) character is contemplating his relationship, which is also a huge part of this fun sports drama!”

In a neighborhood that’s been so overlooked by Hollywood, it’s great to finally have a little recognition. The historically designated community that was known for its artists, then its developers, then its artists leaving, then new condos and citizens can finally be known for yet another thing! Movies!

The location scout went on, “They’ll be blocking the streets for several weeks, moving street-parked cars and taking over the park for all the cool championship sequence shoots, but DUMBO should be proud to be included in a movie that supports dogs and their human companions! As well as celebrating dumbo’s celebrated park view. That’ll be in there, I’m sure of it!”

One wonders if this will spur locals to get more interested in dog-Frisbee and other dog/human sports. One local business reported that doggy bandana sales were on the rise, so who knows? Paneling did recently overhear one frustrated long-time dumboite complain, “New people with their dogs and Frisbees don’t belong here in this artists’ haven! I hate sport coats on people and bandanas on dogs! Why don’t they all go back to whatever suburb they crawled out of? Why I remember when it was just us and we…” Paneling was then distracted by local musician, Paranoid Larry, as he went into an a capella version of one of his classics “Secret Government Detention Center.” When we caught up with the frustrated long-timer, he finished, “ because we made this neighborhood and we need to be honored for that.” A few listeners applauded and everyone went back to their drinks.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Hollywood, suntanned, California wonders prepare to visit the neighborhood like aliens on holiday! And we know what aliens on holiday are like here in Dumbo. So, Paneling says, let’s welcome them to the neighborhood that welcomes change like a cash register welcomes dollars! We’re all in it together, so let’s sell them our expensive soups and cheeses, have them buy our beer and keep the neighborhood a throbbing reminder of what it’s like to be the best view of Manhattan this side of Brooklyn Heights.
